A song by John Nicolson

THE MAN CALLED SORROW

I’m the man called “Sorrow”
The leaf falls from the tree.
Maybe tomorrow,
Love will come to me.

I dreamt I held my true love’s hand.
The hand that wiped all tears.
I dreamt we walked along the sand
Of many distant years.

I saw her in the weak morning sun
Her coat was torn and old.
She shivered on the shovelled street
And her face was blue with cold.

I saw her gold engagement band
Come hanging in the sky.
I heard the broken sparrow sing and
I heard the trees all sigh.

We parted in the valley dark,
She climbed a golden hill
And ‘though she must be old as time.
I see her youthful still.

I’m the man called “Sorrow”
The leaf falls from the tree.
Maybe tomorrow,
Love will come to me.
