Inadequate water access is among the largest impediments to future development. In recent years, we’ve witnessed important gains in water governance, but in many places, women, youth and other disempowered groups have yet to benefit. Trends in natural resource degradation, climate change, food insecurity and conflict are moving in the wrong direction, disproportionately affecting marginalized people worldwide. A key step for improving water governance is to enable them to gain a voice.
In 2019, IWMI will take you on a journey through major river basins across Africa and Asia, where social and environmental injustices are hindering our ability to move forward together. Along the way, we’ll hear from the people who are most affected — in their own photographs and words.
