Dr. Peter Zvagulisp (University of NY in Prague): Many Western countries, including the US, are experiencing a surge in xenophobic and divisive rhetoric which has slowly subverted the traditional moral norms and created a new (pseudo-)normality of the public discourse. This process is well known in European history and it has potentially disastrous consequences for society. To fight against the attempts to subvert the meaning of good and evil in the public discourse, one must know the communicative mechanisms of this process. In this presentation, we will discuss the subtle changes in language and the methods used for amplification of hate messages, along with the strategies for countering this phenomenon.
