TRANSCRIPT: Hey everybody! Welcome back to Morning Thrive. We’re talking about spiritual awakening. I said yesterday that God always begins to stir in people’s hearts with an invitation to come and return to the Lord, but why do we need to return to the Lord? Well, obviously, because we have drifted away from Him. Hebrews 2:1 says, “For this reason, we must pay attention all the more to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”
Have you ever been in the ocean and you’re just playing around, and slowly but surely, you’re drifting down with the current, and it’s taking you away, or drifting out to sea? This happens so easily. You don’t have to do anything to drift. You don’t have to work at drifting, it just happens, and the same is true spiritually. You could be drifting right now. You may say, “Yo, Craig, I’m not really as on fire for Jesus as I was a year ago, or even five years ago, or even 10 years ago.” You’ve drifted away from the Lord.
What causes people to drift from God? Well, there are all kinds of reasons. Some drift because of just flat out disobedience. God is saying this, and I think, “I’m going to go my own way and do my own thing,” and that causes us to drift from God. Others drift because of distraction. “I’m just so involved in my work. I’m so involved in my kid’s sports. I’m so involved in other things that I drift away from God.” Others drift because of disillusionment. “Man, I went through a crisis, a hard time. Why would God allow that to happen? Why didn’t God heal my grandmother? Why did God not keep my job intact? Why didn’t my marriage work out?” All these things cause us to drift from God. But listen, when we are aware that we have drifted, that’s when we need to return to the Lord. Spiritual awakening happens when we say, “God, I’ve drifted far from You, but I’m coming back to You.”
Do you need to turn back to Lord? Have you drifted? Why not right now say, “Lord, I want to return back to You.”
