‘Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow.’
Britain’s departure from the European Union is not the only grim goodbye.
In our personal lives, marriages and friendships characterised by love and mutual respect for so many years, turn bitter and divisive at the point of separation. We also see this in our work lives, when it’s time for someone to part company. And when our loved ones die, our goodbyes are filled with so much sorrow and so little sweetness.
